NDC Takes Deregistration Battle To Appeal Court
The Nigerian Democratic Congress has challenged the Federal High Court ruling that nullified its registration by filing an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Lokoja.
The party said it would soon serve the Independent National Electoral Commission with the court documents while insisting it remains a recognised political party.
The party’s leadership said its legal team completed the appeal process on Monday and dismissed claims that it had been deregistered.
It maintained that its registration status was still reflected on INEC’s platform and assured members that there was no reason for concern.
The NDC also argued that the court case was centred on the party’s logo rather than its existence.
It criticised reports suggesting the judgment automatically removed it from Nigeria’s list of registered political parties.
The appeal follows meetings involving the party’s top leaders, including its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso and national leader Seriake Dickson.
The party said it would continue its legal fight while awaiting the outcome of the appeal.
