Why ADC May Not Be On Ballot – Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in cases linked to leadership disputes in both the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress, leaving uncertainty ahead of the 2027 elections.
No date was fixed for the ruling after arguments from all parties were concluded.
While the PDP situation appears partly settled, with a faction backed by Nyesom Wike still recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the ADC faces a deeper crisis.
None of its rival factions is currently recognised by the electoral body.
With a deadline for parties to submit membership registers approaching, the ADC may struggle to meet the requirement if the court delays its decision.
Failure to comply within the timeline could prevent the party from fielding candidates in the 2027 polls.
The dispute involves factions led by David Mark and others, all seeking legitimacy.
Until the court rules, INEC has maintained a neutral stance, leaving the party’s participation in the next election hanging in the balance.
