Anxiety Grows Over Screening Delay
Tension is rising within the All Progressives Congress as many aspirants await the release of screening results for governorship, National Assembly and presidential races ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party had earlier fixed May 13 for the publication of the outcome, but only State Assembly results were released.
Several aspirants and party members have started expressing concern over the delay as primary elections are expected to begin within days.
Some hopefuls who failed screening have already filed appeals, while others are considering protests and court action in different states.
In Rivers State, a disqualified aspirant alleged that some candidates cleared for the primaries never appeared before the screening panel.
Concerns have also emerged in Cross River and other states over claims of pressure on aspirants to step down for preferred candidates.
Civil society groups have also criticised the situation, warning that unclear screening processes could weaken confidence in internal party democracy.
The organisations urged political parties to ensure fairness, openness and equal opportunity for all aspirants contesting elections.
