New US Bill Stirs Immigration Debate
A United States congressman, Barry Moore, has introduced a new bill seeking to compel immigrants entering America as religious workers to reject Sharia law and pledge support for the US Constitution.
He announced the proposal, known as the “CRUSADE Act,” on Wednesday through a post on X.
Moore argued that some religious doctrines clash with American constitutional principles and should not be promoted within the country.
His proposal has added to an ongoing national debate over religion, immigration and constitutional rights in the United States.
The move comes as some American lawmakers continue discussions around the growing “Sharia-Free America” campaign.
Supporters of the campaign claim political Islam and Sharia law conflict with US legal values, while critics argue such measures could target Muslims unfairly and raise concerns over religious freedom.
The latest proposal also follows recent US attention on religious freedom issues in Nigeria, especially reports of attacks on Christian communities and the use of blasphemy laws in some northern states.
American lawmakers have already introduced separate measures linked to religious persecution concerns in Nigeria.
