Doctors Threaten EFCC With N1bn Lawsuit
The Nigerian Medical Association in Akwa Ibom has threatened to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for N1bn after a raid at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
The association accused EFCC operatives of assaulting a senior doctor during the operation.
The incident happened during an EFCC investigation involving a fraud suspect whose medical report was being verified.
The anti-graft agency said its officers later visited the hospital management for further checks but denied disrupting activities at the facility.
The NMA claimed that Professor Eyo Ekpe, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was physically attacked and handcuffed during the raid.
The association also alleged that its state chairman was shoved and exposed to teargas while trying to seek explanations from the operatives.
Doctors in the state described the hospital environment as sacred and condemned the operation as degrading and unlawful.
The association demanded an apology, punishment for those involved and warned that members could suspend services to EFCC officials and their families until the matter is resolved.
