Ex Commissioner, Garba Yusuf Joins Kano Senate Race
A former finance commissioner in Kano, Garba Yusuf Abubakar, on Sunday declared his bid for the Kano Central senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
He made the announcement during a gathering of supporters, saying his decision followed wide consultations and growing calls for him to run.
The aspirant said he was encouraged by backing from the Tinubu Support Group and urged his followers to campaign peacefully.
He also promised to stand by the party’s choice if he fails to secure the ticket, stressing unity within the APC.
Campaign director Muntari Ishaq Yakasai said there would be no automatic ticket in the race, adding that the decision to contest came from public demand.
He called on Abba Kabir Yusuf to support the ambition, arguing that experience is needed in the Senate.
Supporters across Kano Central have stepped up mobilisation, citing the aspirant’s long service in government under Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Known widely as Garba Izala, he has held key roles in several ministries and is now positioning himself for a new political contest.
