Makinde Camp Pushes New PDP Leadership
In Abuja on Monday, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Seyi Makinde is set to unveil a 10-member caretaker committee led by Tanimu Turaki.
The move follows internal disputes and a recent court ruling that unsettled the party’s leadership structure.
The decision was reached after a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees led by Adolphus Wabara, where members backed Turaki as a unifying figure.
The faction insists the party still has structure and direction despite the crisis and is pushing ahead with plans to stabilise its operations.
This development comes after the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified a previous convention linked to the same group, creating uncertainty within the party.
While the Makinde camp says there is a leadership gap that needs urgent fixing, the opposing bloc aligned with Nyesom Wike maintains that no vacuum exists.
The unfolding struggle shows deep divisions within the PDP as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
Sources also indicate Makinde may soon declare his presidential ambition, adding another layer to the ongoing power tussle within the opposition party.
