Nigeria, US Military Air Raids Kill ISIS Fighters
Joint air operations involving Nigerian forces and United States support have killed about 20 ISIS-linked fighters in an enclave in Borno State.
The strikes targeted suspected hideouts used by the group in remote areas of the state.
Security sources said the mission was based on intelligence tracking movements within insurgent camps.
Military jets carried out coordinated strikes that hit shelters and destroyed weapons and other supplies used by the fighters.
The latest action forms part of ongoing military pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
Authorities say sustained air operations are reducing the capacity of the insurgents to regroup or carry out attacks on nearby communities.
Officials also noted continued cooperation between Nigerian forces and international partners in tackling insecurity in the Lake Chad region.
Security operations are expected to continue as troops push to clear remaining terrorist locations.
