‘You’re Lying To This Jury’ – UK Court Berates Diezani
A jury in London has begun deliberations in the bribery trial of former Nigerian Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke after months of hearings at Southwark Crown Court in the United Kingdom.
She faces multiple charges linked to alleged corruption involving oil executives and luxury benefits.
Prosecutors told the court that she received high-end gifts, property access, private travel and shopping privileges in exchange for influence over oil deals during her time in office.
They also described her as a central figure in a wider network involving senior business players in Nigeria’s oil sector.
Alison-Madueke denied the allegations, insisting she never accepted bribes and only acted on official duties while in office.
However, the prosecution presented messages, witness accounts and financial records they said pointed to a pattern of illicit benefits and influence trading.
The case has drawn strong attention due to her former role in Nigeria’s oil industry and the scale of the allegations.
The jury is now expected to decide the outcome after reviewing evidence presented over several months.
