NNPP Raises Alarm Over INEC 2027 Plans
The New Nigeria Peoples Party has raised concerns over actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission, warning that ongoing disputes could affect preparations for the 2027 elections.
The alert was issued by the party’s national secretary, Ogini Olaposi, in a statement released in Lagos. He said the situation could lead to legal steps that may disrupt the election timetable.
The party accused the commission of failing to comply with a court ruling directing it to recognise a faction of its leadership.
It claimed the order from a Federal Capital Territory court had not been implemented weeks after it was delivered.
According to the NNPP, this delay raises concerns about fairness and readiness ahead of the polls.
Olaposi warned that continued non-compliance could trigger contempt proceedings and further legal action, including moving the matter to higher courts.
He said the party expects equal opportunity to prepare for the elections and insisted that all stakeholders must respect court decisions.
The NNPP also urged government authorities and legal bodies to step in and review the situation.
It added that restoring trust in the electoral process is crucial as political activities begin to build toward 2027.
