SERAP Urges INEC To Probe N800bn Missing Election Fund
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to investigate claims that some APC governors diverted about N800 billion from FAAC allocations for political activities linked to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.
The group submitted the demand in a letter dated May 16, 2026, addressed to INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.
SERAP alleged that monthly deductions were being made from allocations received by APC-controlled states into a campaign account tied to the ruling party.
The organisation argued that the claims raised fresh concerns over political funding, misuse of public money and the fairness of future elections in Nigeria.
The group also urged INEC to work with anti-corruption agencies and security bodies to uncover any breach of the Electoral Act.
It asked the commission to compel the governors and the APC to publicly disclose all campaign contributions and identify the lawful sources of the funds involved.
SERAP warned that using public resources for political campaigns could damage public trust in the electoral system and weaken democratic accountability.
The organisation gave INEC seven days to respond to its demands, warning that legal action could follow if no steps were taken.
