Tinubu Faces Pressure Over Missing N26.9bn Funds
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has asked President Bola Tinubu to order an immediate probe into the alleged disappearance of ₦26.9 billion from the Universal Service Provision Fund.
The group said top officials in the communications sector must explain how the money was handled.
SERAP called on Communications Minister Bosun Tijani and USPF Secretary Yomi Arowosafe to account for the funds.
It also urged Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi and anti-graft agencies to investigate the allegations and prosecute anyone found responsible.
The group said the claims were based on the Auditor-General’s report released in September 2025.
According to SERAP, the report raised concerns over unremitted funds, questionable contract awards, payments for services not delivered and spending linked to foreign trips during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
SERAP warned that missing funds from the telecom intervention programme could worsen poor internet access in rural communities and affect education, business opportunities and access to information.
The organisation also threatened legal action if the government fails to act within seven days.
