ADC Fees Triggers Youth Concerns
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dr Aminu Abdurrahman Anas, has criticised the party’s nomination fees ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that the high cost could keep many young Nigerians out of the race.
He spoke shortly after the party reviewed its fees for different elective positions, including the presidency and governorship.
The party recently reduced its presidential nomination form from N100 million to N90 million, while governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly forms were also reviewed downward.
The ADC said the move was aimed at promoting inclusion and strengthening internal democracy before the next general election.
Despite the reduction, Anas argued that the fees remain beyond the reach of many youths and grassroots politicians.
He said political parties should focus more on giving members equal opportunities instead of creating barriers that favour only wealthy aspirants during primaries.
He also rejected the idea of consensus candidates, insisting that transparent primaries remain the best way to choose credible leaders.
Anas added that the party still has room for growth despite recent disputes and defections, expressing confidence in the leadership of David Mark.
