Group Warns APC Over Kwara Primaries
A sociopolitical group, Democratic Network International, has raised concern over the growing number of aspirants seeking elective positions under the All Progressives Congress in Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group said at least 16 governorship aspirants have already obtained APC nomination and expression of interest forms in the state.
The organisation described the figure as unusually high compared to other states preparing for governorship elections.
It said the development points to rising political pressure within the ruling party and warned that poorly managed primaries could create internal cracks before the main election.
According to the group, more than 40 aspirants are also contesting for House of Representatives tickets, while about 154 individuals are reportedly battling for 24 State Assembly seats.
The organisation estimated that APC aspirants in Kwara may have spent over N3 billion on nomination forms.
The group urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and APC leaders to work toward consensus among aspirants to avoid disputes after the primaries.
It also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to step in early to maintain unity within the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
