NCC Orders Airtime Compensation For Users
On Thursday in Lagos, the Nigerian Communications Commission directed telecom operators to compensate subscribers with airtime for poor service.
The order followed complaints about weak network quality in several areas. It was announced during a media briefing by the regulator. The move targets improved service delivery.
Executive Vice Chairman Aminu Maida said the decision came after confirmed failures by operators to meet required standards. He explained that service quality had fallen below expectations in multiple locations.
The regulator said such lapses cannot continue without consequences. The directive is meant to protect consumers.
Telcos are now expected to provide airtime credits to affected users as compensation. The measure is part of broader efforts to enforce compliance with service rules.
It also aims to restore confidence among subscribers. Operators may face further action if standards are not met.
The commission said it will continue to monitor network performance across the country. It warned that consistent poor service could attract stricter penalties.
Subscribers are expected to benefit directly from the new directive. The step signals stronger oversight in the telecom sector.
