Ogun APC Rift Widens Over Senate Ticket
Crisis has broken out in the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress after four aspirants rejected the endorsement of Senator Shuaib Salisu for the Ogun Central senatorial ticket.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ gathering in Abeokuta attended by top party leaders.
Former senators Lanre Tejuoso and Olugbenga Obadara, alongside Emmanuel Sofela and Muraina Banjoko, opposed the decision and demanded a primary election.
They argued that party members should decide the candidate through voting instead of adopting a consensus arrangement.
The aspirants also claimed earlier meetings on consensus ended without any final agreement.
They insisted many supporters across Ogun Central wanted an open contest and questioned why the endorsement was later announced despite unresolved disagreements within the party.
Former governor Ibikunle Amosun, who is also linked to the race, denied reports that he pressured aspirants to withdraw.
He maintained that he would not participate in any process where the result had already been decided before voting.
