South Africa Rejects Nigeria’s Compensation Demand
South Africa has ruled out paying compensation to Nigeria over recent tensions involving Nigerian nationals, as discussions between both countries continue.
The position was conveyed by the South African Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, during remarks on the issue.
According to the minister, the South African government has no plans to provide compensation.
Instead, it urged Nigerian authorities to share information on locations where illegal drug operations involving Nigerians may be taking place so the problem can be tackled directly.
She maintained that South Africa’s priority is dealing with criminal activities rather than offering financial compensation.
The minister said cooperation between both governments would help remove illegal drugs from communities as quickly as possible.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions over crime, migration and diplomatic relations between Nigeria and South Africa.
Both countries have repeatedly pledged to strengthen security cooperation while addressing issues affecting their citizens.
